I am so shocked to have just heard this such sad news! I will always be forever grateful as a parent for the tremendous care that he took of both Charlotte and Tom during their time in Courtauld House. He was never too busy to listen to any worries and always had a calm and caring answer. As a colleague, I will remember Mark for talking a huge amount of sense and having a fantastic sense of humour. As the heart of Courtauld House, Mr Stringer made Years 7&8 a truly special time at Felsted. Calm leadership brought out the best in children. Forever grateful. Taken too soon. Mr Stringer was so good at leading the young people in his care at school. I’m so sad we have to say goodbye, but feel blessed to have known him. I’m so pleased I was able to tell him how brilliant he was.

We will always remember Mark as a calm, caring and patient person; a professional sports commentator and a very enthusiastic teacher who made history classes enjoyable! He was an amazing man who touched the lives of thousands.

No words that I write here can fully express how much of an impact Mark has had on my life. His patience, guidance, advice, perspective and, most importantly, friendship have helped me enormously, and I would not be who I am today without him. He changed my life and I will forever be grateful.

We were truly saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Stringer, such a fantastic teacher who was greatly respected by all. I'll always remember him for the way he controlled the pupils at the Christmas feast. Just a look sometimes was enough. Mark never appeared to be flustered by any of these events.

We were, and remain, genuinely saddened to learn of the passing of Mr Stringer. Whilst we have only been a part of the Felsted family for an extremely short period of time, Mr Stringer touched the hearts of all the Darling family immediately. On our first parent’s evening, Mr Stringer greeted us with an enthusiastic “you should be very proud of yourselves, your son is wonderful”. His show of kindness, respect and enthusiasm will never be forgotten by our family. A wonderful Gentleman and sad he will no longer be here to guide our sons through their informative years. How lucky were the Barber Boys to have Mark as their history teacher and CH leader - he welcomed them as new boys to Felsted and inspired and nurtured their continuing interest in history. And how lucky were we, their parents, to have the pleasure of listening to Mark's brilliant and entertaining commentary at Sports Day - he was the highlight of the event. Over 20 years ago Mr Stringer was our scholarship class tutor. He took us on an end of year trip to the Peak District and we still talk about it. He was a kind and enthusiastic teacher. I still remember a surprising amount about the Battle of Hastings! My love and prayers to his family and friends.

There are very few people who play such a pivotal role in who you become in life, and I am utterly privileged to say on behalf of myself, and many others who passed through the halls of the Courtauld Centre, that Mr Stringer was one of them. Mr Stringer was a kind, caring, funny, and passionate teacher, who taught us so much more than what we could learn in books. He taught us the importance of being compassionate, he showed us the art of patience, he earned our unwavering respect, and he inspired us to achieve our full potential every day. Hearing of his passing is an incredible loss to our Felsted school community, but his legacy lives on in our hearts, our memories, and in who we all are today. Thank you Mr Stringer for everything - words will never quite cover the admiration we all have for you and the impact you made in our lives.

Sending my thoughts to you all at this time. I worked with Mark for 17 years during my time at Felsted, and he looked after both Amber and Rory during their time in Courtauld House. A fair, caring and professional colleague and teacher in every way. He will be remembered fondly by us all.

As a relatively new member of the Courtauld team,Mark welcomed me with open arms and a warm heart. His kindness, fairness, and unwavering professionalism set him apart as an individual of remarkable integrity. Mark's contributions to FPS were immense, and his presence will be deeply missed. Such a sad loss of an amazing man and teacher. Occasionally someone comes along who has the ability to hold everyone’s attention, inspire them, make them laugh and gain their respect all within a single lesson. Mark was so very kind to Roberta when she started in year 7. We experienced lock down very soon after starting at Felsted. Mark was amazing so encouraging and always engaging with Roberta. Mark will hold a very special place in her heart always.

I was so sorry to hear of Mark's passing- I had the privilege of working with Mark for just 6 years - Mark was a man who cared deeply- for those Y7/8 children in his care, for the staff he led so admirably in Courtauld House, for the passionate History lessons he taught that brought the past alive for so many pupils, for the rugby teams he coached so expertly, for the cubs and scouts groups he ran and for, of course, his own family-Gill, Toby and Luke. School Sports day: staff arrived early to set up and check to see if was going to rain! I'm sure that the bacon rolls that were organised came from Mark's request and came to be part of the day for us staff. At least that's the way I will remember the day.

You were by some margin the best manager of children and staff that I worked with over 30 years being a teacher. You quite simply were "Courtauld House" and Year 7/8 leader. And this is how I remember most of my 20 years at FPS. I should have thanked you when I retired in 2021 and I hope that I did express my gratitude before I left.

We are so sad to hear about Mark. He was such a kind, thoughtful, decent man who has been taken far too young. He was a wonderful family man who will be sorely missed. We will always remember him for his many kindnesses to Ben while at Felsted. In fact, the sports tie which Mark gave Ben when he left Felsted is still a much treasured possession which hangs on his wall. I will also remember Mark from many fun and enjoyable Cubs and Scouts camping trips where his organisation, enthusiasm and energy were always on show and helped make the trips such successes. Mr Stringer was an absolute legend! He had the respect of the children and the parents and was always there at the end of an email to help wherever he could. It’s not often we’d hear about what went on in lessons at school but we’d always hear about Mr Stringer’s Kahoot quizzes in history from George, he really loved his lessons. Know that he made an impact on the lives of so many, he will always be remembered as one of the ‘good guys’.

We were so sorry to hear about Mark. If you were to ask both of our sons who their favourite teacher was Mr Stringer would definitely be at the top. He was one of those teachers who was able to be both liked and respected by the students. He also went out of his way to help and guide them. Both of them remember him as an ‘All Stars’ Legend! How wonderful to leave a legacy of such admiration and affection.

We will always remember Mark for his dedication and devotion to his family and his students. Such a kind, gentle man who gave so much to so many throughout his life who was taken from us way too soon. X

Mark was incredibly supportive as a Head of Phase and gave me lots of his time. He was also a wonderful source of inspiration for book suggestions! More recently, he was the first person to sponsor me for a charity event to support the hospice that cared for my mother, which speaks of his kind and supportive nature. Mark was the last person to have taught me Medieval History in school, and it is because of his animated retelling of events such as the Battle of Hastings - of which I have fond memories - that I decided to give some Medieval History modules a go at University. Flash forward 15 years, and in one week's time I shall be submitting my PhD in Medieval History for examination. Although I'd never have known at the time, he set me on this path, and I owe him my utmost thanks.

In remembrance of a teacher who made a difference. The heart of Courtauld House. Mr Stringers legacy is not just in the subjects he taught but in the lives of the children he inspired and the dreams that he helped nurture. Thank you.

Mark was a very well respected, caring teacher and it was a joy and honour to work with him for many years. I will remember Year 7 entry assessments Scholarship days and Open Days with much fondness; he always put the children at ease, and his passion for History and Rugby shone through. I loved Mark's dry sense of humour and thoroughly enjoyed working with him. He was always the first to say thank you for any help and was so dedicated to his role - an amazing role model to pupils and colleagues alike. We have only fond memories of Mark from his cheeky announcements at Sports day to the day to day at the school including the many hours he spent helping me edit and coordinate the Prep leavers year book during lock down. Mark took the greatest care of both our children during their years in Courtauld House, Felsted. With my son he understood him where so many couldn't or wouldn't even try. We had weekly catch ups (nothing was too much trouble to him), he would always make us feel heard and championed my boy in any way he could. Mark introduced my daughter to rugby. She loved it and remembers fondly how supported she felt by him. She loved his history lessons and in particular his energy and enthusiasm which was infectious. I witnessed it regularly as we were in lockdown and quickly realised which lessons she looked forward to and a history quiz with a chance to earn his praise was the highlight of her week. As parents we will never forget his care and limitless consideration of our children. We knew our children were in safe hands while he was in charge. Our hearts go out to Gill, Luke and Toby. Mark often talked about his family with such warmth and pride and I know they brought him the greatest joy.

I will never forget how compassionate Mark was when we had a family medical situation. His attention and care was remarkable, and we were and always will be eternally grateful. Sending our love and thoughts to Gill, Luke & Toby, we are very sorry for your loss x

Mark was a properly top tier teacher and rugby coach. So great at building pupils confidence including my own, at such a pivotal period of their development. His passion and enthusiasm was abundantly clear and he was a hugely popular teacher. In fact, I’m pretty sure one of my bank security question answers is “Mr Stringer” when auto-prompted by the question “Who was your favourite teacher at junior school?”. I’m so sorry for your loss. But know that he had such a positive influence on so many people that are benefitting today, many years later.

The most wonderful friend and colleague. Mark has taught me so much about life and work, and he is in my thoughts everyday. The world is a lesser place now, but I take comfort from many of his words that echo in my head, and the many words of wisdom he passed onto his pupils, most notably to 'do the right thing, at the right time'! and 'Be kind to one another, we are a community' xx
